I. Prayer
A. Commit to a daily, personal time with Jesus. Suggestions range from
early in the morning to your lunch hour to just prior to or after your
dinner to just before you go to bed. The time ought to be set in concert
with your own "best time of the day." Give Jesus your best
time! Commit to pray everyday. Suggestions for this prayer time are
available from Pastor Scott.
B. Commit to a regular time of prayer with a "Prayer Partner."
Find one or two people from within the fellowship and covenant yourselves
to pray together, praying for one another and praying together for our
fellowship.
II. Scripture Reading
A. Commit to reading the Bible everyday! You can allow the Spirit to
guide your reading day by day or you can follow a more formal structure,
such as "The Bible of the Year" which is available through
the church office. The critical commitment is not t read specific portions
of the Bible, but to read from God's Word and to ask His Spirit to speak
to you through that Word each and every day!
III. Bible Study
A. Commit to a weekly study of God's Word. There are a number of excellent
options available to you right here at First Congregational. Check out
the page on Teaching Ministries.
IV. Prayer and Fasting
A. Commit to the "Wesleyan Pattern of Prayer and Fasting"
1. Each Thursday evening after the evening meal until mid-afternoon Friday
no
solid food!
2. Prayer time during those times when you would have been preparing and
eating your meals. Prayer ought to be centered on how we in our Fellowship
can help reach the lost of our community.
V. Regular Worship Attendance and Invitations
A. Commit yourself to making attendance at weekly Worship Celebrations
and planned opportunities to worship together a first priority in your
life.
B. Commit yourselves to inviting people to Worship on a regular basis.
Inviting friends, families, and new acquaintances to experience worshiping
the Lord with you.
